Give Green This Season

The holiday season is here, and for many the holiday season is not only a season of celebration, but one of giving.

Give Green This Season

Though the holiday season is often filled with plentiful food, gifts, events, and friends and family, the season should also be one of thoughtfulness, joy, and sharing what we have with others.

If you're a wait-until-the-end-of-the-year-to-donate person still considering choosing worthy funds or companies to contribute towards, consider that the impact of your donation is further reaching than just the agency it goes to.

Positively impact climate change through this season of giving and beyond by voting with your wallet and choosing to donate to an organization or impact fund that benefits the earth and offers tax breaks in the form of charitable contributions.

To make the task easier, we've compiled a few organizations, all found and verified through Giving Green (https://www.givinggreen.earth/) that are worth looking into.

1. Climeworks (www.climeworks.com/subscription) offers actual carbon offsetting through the process of physically removing existing carbon from the air and turning it into a solid material underground. Giving Green recommends this option for businesses and corporate donations specifically due to it's alignment with net-zero policies and the relative cost of removal (currently at $1200 USD per ton, though that cost decreases by volume).

2. Milkywire (https://www.milkywire.com/climate-transformation-fund) focuses on three aspects of climate change; permanent carbon removal, restoring and protecting nature, and decarbonization. Milkywire is recommended for businesses and corporate contributions (they posit companies focus on long-term impact instead of carbon offsets) and a donation to them supports a portfolio of funds they hand-pick and support.

3. Tradewater (www.tradewater.us/offsetnow) focuses on finding chemical refrigerants that have not yet entered the atmosphere but trap 10,000 times more heat than CO2, purchasing them, and destroying them. Their relative cost of removal is a steal at $15 USD per ton and is an option both individual and corporations can afford and feel good about.

4. Want to effect policy? The Clean Air Task Force (www.catf.us) works with policy makers from both parties to champion climate-positive options such as renewable energy, power grid improvements, and machines that capture carbon.

5. Not sure which fund to donate to? Donate to the Giving Green portfolio fund (https://www.givingwhatwecan.org/charities/giving-green-fund) to have your donation go towards their top recommendations for maximum impact.

Did we miss your favorite charity that positively impacts climate change? We'd love to hear about it! Leave us a comment or reach out directly so we can update our list!

Happy Giving Season!
